Up Hill Parking

  1. Close Curbside Stop

  2. Confirm Car Close to Curb - Else follow steps to correct

  3. Steering full Left turn

  4. Gear to “N” or "R"

  5. Left shoulder check, Rear window check

  6. Controlled roll back and softly settles with the curb

  7. Gear to “P”

  8. Engage park brakes

Driving Out

  1. Gear to “D”, release park brake

  2. Left mirror check, left shoulder check, left signal

  3. When safe, move out while loosening the steering

Down Hill Parking

  1. Close Curbside Stop

  2. Confirm Car Close to Curb - Else follow steps to correct

  3. Steering full Right turn

  4. Gear to “N” or "D"

  5. Right shoulder check, Rear window check

  6. Controlled roll back and softly settles with the curb

  7. Gear to “P”

  8. Engage park brakes

Driving Out

  1. Gear to “R”, release park brake

  2. While looking back reverse car very slow for about 1 feet

  3. Straighten the tires

  4. Gear to “D”, release emergency brake

  5. Left mirror check, left shoulder check, left signal

  6. When safe, move out

Moving Car Closer to Curb – 2 Methods

Ensure car straight along with curb. If big gap seen in right mirror between the car and curb, then need to move car closer to curb

By Moving Backward

  1. Gear to "R", steer complete right, left shoulder check, when safe, drift car back till curb edge NO more seen in right mirror and stop

  2. Straighten wheels, drift back 2 meter (about 2 seconds) and stop

  3. Full left turn, drift back until you feel car straight and stop (you will see curb straight in right mirror)

  4. Straighten wheels

By Moving Forward

  1. keeping balance between viewing curb in right mirror and viewing curb from front window, drift car towards curb and drive straight for very small distance along with curb and stop (It is a guess work and needs judgement and experience)

Parallel Parking

  1. Approach Straight, Slow with Right Signal on and position your car parallel to the parked vehicle, about 1 meter apart

  2. Stop when you see tail light of parked vehicle just after the rear passenger window of your car

  3. Gear to “R”

  4. Steer one turn right

  5. Find 45 degree point, quite far on your line of sight passing along left mirror casing of your car (no tilting of your head/body)

  6. Back window check, Left shoulder check (after giving way to passing and on-coming vehicles)

  7. Reverse till 45 degree point seen straight ahead of you (from middle of steering without tilting your head/body)

  8. Steer one turn left

  9. Reverse while glancing back and towards parked vehicle till you see left edge of parked vehicle what is at your dashboard height, in the right corner of your windscreen & stop

  10. Steer complete left

  11. Reverse slowly while looking back, occasional glance in right mirror till vehicle is straight and stop

  12. Straighten wheels (two right turns)

  13. Gear on “P” and engage park brakes

Driving Out

  1. If you feel close to front vehicle, then little reverse before driving out, else

  2. Gear to “D”, release park brake, steer full left

  3. Left mirror check, left shoulder check, left signal

  4. When safe, gradually & constantly move to drive lane while steering the car straight

Correction if Car touches the curb during parallel parking

  1. Steer full right

  2. Creep forward

  3. Steer full left

  4. Creep back until car straight 

Correction if Car away from curb after parallel parking

  1. Steer complete right, left shoulder check, when safe, drift car back till curb edge NO more seen in right mirror and stop

  2. Straighten wheels, drift back 2 meter (about 2 seconds) and stop

  3. Full left turn, drift back until you feel car straight and stop (you will see curb straight in right mirror)

  4. Straighten wheels

Perpendicular Parking in Parking Lot

  1. Keep car as far away as possible from the parking spot before moving into it

  2. Only brake work, no gas, moving as slow as possible

  3. When side mirror about to cross 1st vehicle, very slowly move into the spot with complete turn of steering

  4. After about half move in, start steering to move towards far edge of 2nd vehicle

  5. Then complete turn and move towards front vehicle till car straight

  6. Straighten the wheels (when complete turn of steering, straighten it two times)

  7. Can move ahead till edge of front curb is seen from under side mirror

Correction If car not in center or not straight

  1. With wheels straight, while looking back, crawl back till possible

  2. Now you can easily see what fixing is required.

  3. Fix it while driving forward
